  • Minerals: Chrysocolla (Hydrated Copper Silicate) and Chalcocite (Copper Sulfide)

  • Chemical Formula: Chrysocolla — variable hydrated copper silicate; Chalcocite — Cu₂S

  • Hardness: Chrysocolla 2–4; Chalcocite 2.5–3 on the Mohs scale. Silica-rich areas may be harder.

  • Color: Turquoise blue, blue-green, deep teal, dark gray, and metallic black

  • Luster: Chrysocolla — dull to waxy; Chalcocite — metallic to submetallic

  • Formation: Develops in copper-rich deposits where copper sulfide minerals and secondary copper silicates occur together through mineralization and weathering processes

  • Origin: Found in copper-producing regions including the United States, Peru, Chile, Mexico, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo

  • Unique Feature: Combines the vibrant blue-green coloring of chrysocolla with the dark, sometimes metallic appearance of chalcocite, creating striking natural contrasts
