Locality: Brazil

Geological Properties

  • Mineral: Fuchsite (Chromium-Rich Variety of Muscovite Mica)

  • Chemical Formula: KAl₂(AlSi₃O₁₀)(OH)₂, with chromium substituting for some aluminum

  • Hardness: 2–2.5 on the Mohs scale

  • Color: Emerald green, apple green, pale green, and silvery green

  • Clarity: Transparent to translucent in thin sheets; generally opaque in massive specimens

  • Luster: Pearly to glassy, often with a shimmering or sparkling appearance

  • Density: Approximately 2.8–2.9 g/cm³

  • Formation: Forms through metamorphic processes in chromium-rich rocks, particularly schists and other metamorphic environments.

  • Origin: Brazil, India, Russia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and the United States

  • Unique Feature: Its vibrant green color comes from chromium, while its mica structure creates a distinctive silvery-green sparkle. Sometimes occurs with ruby crystals, forming the decorative stone known as Ruby in Fuchsite.

Metaphysical Properties

  • Known As: Stone of Healing & Renewal

  • Energy: Nurturing, calming, and uplifting

  • Chakras: Heart

  • Emotional Support: Believed to encourage compassion, emotional balance, self-acceptance, and a positive outlook

  • Spiritual Meaning: Traditionally associated with personal growth, renewal, and connection to nature

  • Symbolism: Harmony, hope, kindness, and transformation

  • Intention: Open your heart to compassion, embrace renewal, and welcome balance into your life.

Common Uses

  • Tumbling: Generally not recommended for pure fuchsite because its softness and flaky mica structure make it prone to crumbling. Fuchsite-bearing rock may be tumbled if sufficiently durable.

  • Carving: Occasionally used for spheres, hearts, palm stones, and decorative objects when contained within a stable rock matrix.

  • Jewelry Making: Used in pendants, cabochons, beads, and ornamental pieces, particularly when combined with ruby or quartz.

  • Landscaping & Décor: Best suited for indoor displays and protected decorative arrangements rather than exposed outdoor landscaping.

  • Crafts & Collections: Valued for mineral specimens, decorative carvings, mica collections, and colorful metamorphic rock displays.
